The Religious Education program at St. John the Baptist is focused on forming disciples of Christ through creating relationships and accompaniment in prayer, education, and exposure to the sacraments. We center deep in our faith to encompass the life of Jesus Christ, the Word of God, and the holy sacraments instituted in the Church. Our chosen curriculum mirrors this approach by building each new year upon the last. We use Sophia Institute's "Spirit of Truth" curriculum. This curriculum is rich in beauty and solid in the truth of the Word. Our mission is to shape intentional disciples of Christ by accompanying them in communion with God and to reinforce that they are children of God who are loved unconditionally.
As part of the St. John’s community, it is our task to support the Catholic teaching parents teach at home as the primary educators of the faith. The first catechists in any child’s life are the family members in with whom he or she lives with. You provide the example for your child by actively living out your faith, attending Mass, receiving the sacraments regularly and praying at home. What happens at home -both positive and negative- provides lessons for life. In the family, faith is shared as part of the unfolding daily life. The home, or domestic church, provides a real place in which a child learns to live out his or her faith, as well as, understands it. Your child’s faith is fostered through actions and decisions made in the home (CCC 1655-1657). In partnership with you, we hope to teach your child what it means to be a Catholic Christian. We are here to assist and encourage you in teaching and handing down your faith to your children.
